I think the Springsteen vibe comes from the drums. Very straightforward, with builds in the transitions that hammer away just like Weinberg.

don't see the point in any of these leaked songs being tagged anything other than gaslight anthem.

Yeah, I lost it on this one after about the tenth really focused listen.
I don't have any long relationship memory like that, but it reminded me of some poignant memories of my parents' divorce when I was still young, and the lyrics about the creaking house, cold, and silhouettes felt like I was revisiting it and the violence today, as if I never fully grew past it. And you know I don't think I have, because I have had few girlfriends and none of them lasted very long all because of my fear of trust subconciously thanks to the divorce- and the song brought that out too, all those mistakes I made with a very few girls who were basically there to prove my fear wrong.

that's why navesink banks has some strong lines to me too, and great expectations whole diner and first wife leaving theme. Fallon's got a way of bringing out the hurt.

I like this more and more each time I listen to it.

I am relieved that this song doesn't open up any old wounds I have. I can put things in perspective, I had high-school sweetheart, things were great, we moved in together when we moved to another town, I was a immature fool and after half a year in that cursed apartment we broke up. Spent over a year feeling like a worthless sack of crap but eventually left the worst ache behind me. I'm only 20, I'll be fine.

This song does touch me in a very special way, in a way that only a few Gaslight songs have done so far (although I am touched by so many of them). If anything, my hazy eyes tell me I'm fine and I can look back at it with some sort of melancholy smile. Old haunts are all we've ever known.

I hear Brian Fallon, but I don't really hear Gaslight to be honest.

^^ I think you might have just summed it up perfectly , in addition i find that i can relate to the line "i age by years at the mention of your name" very strongly, but being the introvert i am i shall keep the reasoning quiet.

i can't see any springsteen similarity at all. on another note, how cool is "behold the hurricane" for a hook?

The more I hear it the more I like it - remind me more and more of U2, especially the two/three higher notes that ring throughout most of the song - like a gd quote I read about the edge ''he only seems to be playing two or three notes - but they're always the right two''.
Im looking forward to seeing/hearing who plays what part of the songs live between Brian and Ian - obviously with TGA its usually Brian with the lower chords and Alex R riffing over them so be interesting to see different arrangments with The Horrible Crowes

it kinda reminds me of the Killers. i know some people have said that about Gaslight and it has been met with opposition, but the vocal melody thing is pretty Killers-esque and Brian's delivery in the bridge reminds me of Flowers.

in the first advance review, i think the reviewer mentioned that this track was the most like Gaslight. i really like it, but i'm looking forward to see how the rest of the album will be different.

I have to admit, I was a little bit iffy on Black Betty and the Moon... but this track is fantastic. Too stoked for Elsie.

To be honest, I had tears in my eyes while listening... I immediately fell in love with it.
And yeah, "Backseat" and "Bring it on" were the first song associations I had.

Man I wasn't so sure about it the first few times I listened to it but I'm digging it now.

Brian really just nails some of the lyrics here with their simplicity and grace. The line "I'm not the man that you love" is just so haunting and naked and seemingly true. There's nothing like the first time you realize someone that you love doesn't love you. It's such a disgusting but real feeling that can't described by metaphor or an image. It's aggressive songwriting. It's amazing.

I like it. I agree with most of the comparisons people have posted in here, including The Killers, surprisingly. It feels slightly overproduced to me but that me be because I'm hearing a low quality stream. Regardless I think it will sound good cranked up loud in September.

I've been listening to this on repeat all day. This album is gonna be something special. Considering I've only heard that clip of Black Betty and the Moon, and this song, and I'm already completely hooked, it's gonna be so great to have an actual copy in my hand the day it's released! Nothing better than falling in love with new music! Anyone got the chords to this down yet?

Yes to chords actually , the verse / intro is (capo 3) G and Em shapes , and D just before the chorus on the "beating in and out of time" then G and Em again in the chorus going to the D again on the second "begold the Hurricane" . The bridge on the two "i heard lines " i think is Bm , Em , C and on the other two is Em , C , D. If you want those two notes that ring out throughout the song it is just the two top notes of a G chord . This is based on about 5 listens of the song so don't tear me apart.
