The Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon: Bruce Springsteen now comes over to my house!
by Gavin Martin, Daily Mirror 17/06/2011

The UK holds a special place in the heart of New Jersey rocker Brian Fallon and his band The Gaslight Anthem.

Two years ago, they got a priceless career boost when fellow New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen joined them onstage at Glastonbury.

Bruce then invited Brian onstage at his Hyde Park performance the same weekend and The Gaslight Anthem’s fortunes have continued to rise ever since.

“We’ve been able to do things we never thought possible when we started out,” says Brian, 31. “Like, I’ve got a house I can look at it and say, ‘I got this from playing guitar’. It’s amazing. We never thought we’d have 5,000 people watching us, and Bruce Springsteen as a fan. It would be like someone saying you can go to Mars. We’re friends now and I see him on a personal level. Bruce comes over and we hang out casually. I’m friends with his son too. Sometimes I do have to pinch myself – Bruce Springsteen here in my house!”

Fallon’s confidence is at a high while planning a follow-up to last year’s great American Slang album.

Clearly a workaholic, he has two additional projects on the go, The Horrible Crowes – a band with his guitar tech Ian Perkins – and The Revival Tour, with pal Chuck Ragan.

“I learned from having had writer’s block,” smiles Brian. “If you’re on a roll, you must keep writing because you never know when the flow is going to go away.”

● The Gaslight Anthem play the London Feis in Finsbury Park tomorrow.
