what's with these tour dates?

I really don't understand what is going on with these tour dates.

Ok, TGA are mainly playing festivals this summer, but why can't they fit in a UK headline show, seeing they can fit in German ones, and why can't they fit in a headline show or two somewhere in New Jersey or New York?

I'm sorry, but I don't get it.

How do you think I'll feel...They haven't been to Pittsburgh since releasing American Slang!! NJ is our next store neighbor and Gaslight hasn't even popped in to visit! Bull!

Yeah man. They are taking it easier than normal this year. I think they want to do some side project stuff and have some down time. They'll have a new album out in a year or two and you can see them then.

I live on the west coast so I don't get to see much of em either.

The uk gets them sooooo much more.

The only time I saw them I drove 7 hours. Looks like i won't even be able to do that this summer.

They sold out numerous UK dates last year playing to bigger audiences all the time - selling out Hammersmith without any radio airplay is no mean feat - I think they are missing trick not building on this momentum ....

I can only imagine they think ticket sales would impact on the Revival tour sales..

I really think they didn't actually plan the headline shows. Guess they are only meant to fill the days off between the festivals.
But I'm on your side when it comes to UK because I don't understand why there's no headline show around the London festival since there are 1 day before and 2 days off after the festival. But I assume there are some reasons behind this. Maybe there are some more dates tba or they are up to something else.

Don't think it has anything to do with the Revival Tour Ticket sales, though.

Festivals sometimes impose restrictions in the contract with bands on headline shows they can play in the run up to festivals to keep them exclusive somewhat though I imagine there is nothing stopping them after the London show but you can see why the organisers wouldnt want them playing anther London show.

I'm really bummed that they aren't playing the Welmont and that the revival tour will not be in the US (or haven't been announced yet)

sounds like you shoulda driven to Dirrrrty Jersey to catch a show... hell, i drove 4 hours to Indy to catch them for the 2nd time in 2010. methinks that when they put out a new album and tour, i will hafta base my annual vacation around the midwest dates.

This is getting interesting, here's another poster from a country who wasn't visited this time around, in fact they've only played one headlining-gig here ever, last year, so come on and take your best shot.

However, the lack of UK gigs is probably because they played both Glastonbury, London 'Feis' (was it?), and even that Download Festival was in the UK right? Sorry, I'm not very into festivals, as you can probably understand. But I've got the impression that it's quite usual for the big festivals in the UK, but maybe not Germany(?), to block their artists from doing headlining gigs around the same time?

I remember how upset the english fans were in 2009 when Springsteen 'only' played Glastonbury and Hard Rock Calling in England, while he did one 'real' show in Scotland and two in Dublin. The previous year he sold out RDS in Dublin three nights, and sold out thwo nights at Emirates, and one show at Old Trafford. Given that you'd think Springsteen would sell enough tickets to do at least one headliner-show in England on the 2009 tour as well.

My bet is the festivals are doing whatever they can to block their booked artists from doing 'other gigs' in order to sell as many tickets and festival-passports as possible. And if that's the case, I can't really blame Gaslight for playing the festivals where they can reach out to more people and recruit new fans. Also keep in mind that Brian is coming back in the fall on the Revival Tour. Maybe ticket-sales to those shows would have been slower if TGA did a few headlining gigs in the UK this summer? My two cents...

Here in Norway we're not getting the Revival Tour, Gaslight did not play any festivals here this summer, nor any headlining-gigs, now THAT sucks!

Oh, and I am now awaiting my price for the longest post ever on this board...

well, I'll most likely be in Stage College next time a US tour rolls around, and they wont pass Philly like they have with Pitt, and Ill be half way there


And since Jersey is right down the road...

so is there zero us dates this fall? they've come around decently close every year the last three years, its become quite a great tradition.
