I think Benny hit it square on the head. The south will, and is, reexamining where and how to build new houses. That will help definitely. But the shore won't be the same. I know that a lot of towns who lost boardwalks are considering making them out of plastic/fake wood. In the long run its better (price and maintenance wise) but takes away from the classy feel of regular wood. It's going to be weird to say to the younger generations "I remember when board walks were made with real boards"
As for the north: people will own generators now and will certainly stock up on gas when a major storm is forecasted. Worst case you dump the gas in your car if you don't use it. I know the worst thing for me was waiting 2 hours to get gas for our generator.
Different world. That really will help, hopefully the north can rebuild differently as well. My area got hit pretty bad with Irene. Destroyed some houses along our shore and I know some of them rebuilt in a way that kept the waves from hitting their houses during Sandy so there's definitely ways to prepare. That's interesting about the boardwalks. I didn't know that. That's so sad to think about. When I was in California I made fun of how the Venice Beach "boardwalk" is just sidewalk. Fake wood just wouldn't be the same. You'll just have to wait for 2 hours BEFORE the storm to get gas. But yeah, stuff like that will help.

| Yeah it's going to be different. I've heard people are petitioning to keep real boards, so maybe there's hope. I've also heard even free beach town are considering to charge a fee now for beach access because of costs. That's not settling to well with people either. Haha with my luck I will be trapped in line! The main issue was though most stations had gas, but no power to pump it. which led to lines at the few that did. So prior to a storm all stations should be up and running. But once again, with my luck. | |

I laughed pretty good at this post. Gotta say though, same problem in girls bathrooms. Although I don't know why, and lifting the seat up wouldn't solve it for us unfortunately :/

Oh no problem! That's why I do it, I'm sure there are a bunch of people who enjoy reading what Benny has to say but don't have the time to check. He even acknowledged he isn't good at updating it him self As for the post it's self I always love to read what Benny has to say. Most people have cleanliness habits that they do out of paranoia. If you think about it prob half the stuff you come in contact day to day are probably just as bad, if not worse, for you. That being said though piss stained anything is still nasty...

| "while I can't even figure out what happened on Lost". Great line there. He's got appoint about the American millilenials and cynicism towards the American dream. I know As a child on the 90's, I don't have realistic hopes I will have a life like my parents. To be honest, it's amazing something like mass roits or a revolution hasn't happened yet. | |

There haven't been riots because (mostly) everyone under the age of 35 is placated with the Internet and electronic devices. This generation's idea of protest is posting quotes by people who stood for something at one point in history. And the generation behind us is even worse.

| These are always such good reads! I never even begin to know what to say in response. While I definitely understand what Benny's talking about, I had never thought about it in the context of heaven and hell. He makes some really good points.
And I'll be honest, even from the other side of the barricade, my mind sometimes wanders during Great Expectations too...
Thanks for keeping a lookout for when Benny makes a new post, Andrew!

| Everything he said is what I've been thinking for years now, but he articulates it so much better. While I am very much a liberal, I do wish both sides could get off their high horses and recognize that they may not know everything, OR at least recognize that even if your way is allegedly the "right" way, you can't govern a country without making some compromises. | I do the exact same thing, judging strangers who are guilty of nothing more than being brave enough to be themselves and have fun. It's messed up, and I don't know why it's such a human tendency either. | |

| Incredibly thoughtful post. I think we can all find ourselves in his words, no matter how hard we try not to judge anyone, our own insecurities still drive us down that road sometimes ... | |
