| Just a random question for everyone; what do you think last song you listen to in 2010 will be and what will the first song of 2011 be, and why? Someone recently asked me this and I thought it was an interesting question. I picked Boxer as my last song of '10 because it was my favorite song on American Slang when it first came out, and I think I listened to Gaslight more than any other band this year. And I picked Swimming by Breath Owl Breath as my first song of '11 cause I've been listening to them a lot lately and I love the song. Anyway, this is probably pointless since I'll probably completely forget about these songs on New Years, but I'd still love to hear all of your answers!!! |

| Hmm, in practice I won't be listening to a 'final song of the year' as such since I'll be at a party but for the heck of it I'll share my thoughts.
I think American Slang would be the perfect ending to the year. At the start of 2010 I got dumped after a 2 and a half year relationship (so basically the whole period of my later teenage years and 'growing up'), quit school, moved out of my place (that was the end of 2009 actually, but hey, with all the shit that went on, everything felt like it was all happening at once) and had no idea what to do. I felt shit for almost half a year and thought about so much stuff that my mind exploded all the while feeling like a huge dickface for getting dumped by, who of course at the time, felt like the most amazing girl I was ever going to meet during my long and puny existence. So imagine a lonesome boy with lack of friends and lack of ideas on what to with his young but already seemingly useless life. I'm probably exaggerating here (somewhat... :'D), but you get the point. So as I was slowly crawling out of my low and lonesome gutter, American Slang arrived.
Look what you started, I seem to be coming out of my skin. Look what you've forgotten here, these bandages just don't keep me in.
Hello ex and wow, talk about a wake up call meets life saver/changer. In fact the whole album spoke of the 'wife of my youth', 'goodbye circus wheel', 'we did it when we were young', etc. It just revamped me and from that moment on I decided to let things be and move on =) So American Slang definitely deserves to be 'my song of 2010'.
No idea what song I would start out 2011 with. It would probably be something awesome and cheerful ; )
edit: I apparently felt the need to share my life story, thanks for tuning in! haha

| I don't know yet what my final 2010 song will be.
But I know for sure that on January 1st 2011, I will be listening to Hold Me Close by Lucero Since I listened to Lucero more than any other band this year and saw em more than any other bands also.
If you haven't listened to Lucero or that song in general. Your missing out big time. |

| Yeh quite a cool thought , i mean the last song i willingly listen to is how i will answer it because i always end up at a New Years Eve party listening to terrible music , so:
Last song : We Did It When We When we were Young beacuse its a good reflective song .
First Song: The National - Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks - because i want to write some music as good as this next year and this will remind me to keep trying.

| Most likely, my first/last songs will be The Hold Steady, as I will be at their New Year's Eve show in Milwaukee.
Once back in the car after that show, I think Frank Turner's "Live Fast Die Old" will have to go on. Everything about that song is how I need to face things in the new year. I should put together a "Pull Yourself Out of This, Kid" mix to kick off the year. ha.

| I don't know. I'm not a big fan of New Year's Eve so I'll probably just be at home listening to music or jamming on the guitar and not notice it's midnight.
For some reason I remember last year the first song I heard was Norah Jones "Chasing Pirates." Not a bad song but no idea why I still remember it.

| I'll be at a bar so whatever is being played there is what I'll listen to. Probably some really lame stuff. Wish I could be going to The Hold Steady or Girl Talk shows in Milwaukee, but I have to do what my girlfriend wants. | |

| I've ended the 2009 with "Daysleeper" by REM but it was not my choice. Love that song, and love REM, in any case. Last song of 2008 was "Shine a light" by Rolling Stones. This year...well...I just don't know but I'd like to listen to Backstreets, Brian fallon' s version. Me and my two best friends have three platelets with some verses of that song written on it. "We swore forever friends on the backstreets until the end" It's the thing that keeps us close everyday, even if we live in different places...or at least, we always have thought that . Friendship it's a damn good thing, guys. | |

Dude, CONVINCE YOUR GIRLFRIEND! Apparently THS isn't selling well because they're in Chicago the night before and in Minneapolis right around there too. Your girlfriend can drink there, just like a bar. My husband would have never dated me in the first place if I kept him from shows, and same for me with him! The Hold Steady is going to be insane. I'm so excited. I'm just kind of iffy on it being a seated venue. I'm hoping there's a small standing section right in front, on par with most "theater" settings.
