How Bout
1. Paint it Black
2. A jimi cover? Crosstown Traffic
3. Spanish Moss by Against Me. They would slay that.
Brian is exellent finding tones of the original singers voice and using his mix of bluesy punk epicness

I think they would do an awesome cover of Barracuda, by Heart. Loved baba orielly at asbury park , I thought they did a better job than the Who when I saw them at Shea Stadium.

Sadly covers are a thing of the past. BMI sues whatever venue allows covers, and even originals without paying them off.

Ehhhhh generally speaking legal action is not taking place every time a cover is played. Yeah, that's the law but most places will let you do covers. Although I'd prefer if bands cut down on playing covers. I want to hear YOUR songs, damnit haha.

JimmyB is right. As ridiculous as it sounds, venues can be sued for copying righted music being played. The caveat here however is Connely's is a pretty well known Bar in NYC and the owner continuously ignored paying the licensee fee to have music played at the bar. Still kind of shows how ridiculous the US copyright laws truly are, but we can save that for another discussion

He's right in the sense that BMI has been going after everyone for years but he's not right about covers being a thing of the past. Not even close. That part is just insanity.

Completely agree with you, in the end it's up to the venue not the band to ensure the venue has whatever PRO membership is necessary to play any copyrighted songs. If I were in a band and the venue didn't warn me in advance that I couldn't play cover songs then I would assume they have their license and I could go ahead and play whatever I wanted.

Rumble in Brighton or Storm The Embassy, by the Stray Cats. 2 great punk songs from a decidedly un-punk band.

I'd love to hear TGA cover any Japandroids song. Two very different sounding bands, but it still would be awesome to hear. The Nights of Wine and Roses would be funny because it perpetually has the words "souls" and "wine" in it, something Brian has wrote about a lot.

Mine would be "Paper Wings" by Rise Against but I wonder if it's a more likely choice for the Scandals

I would love to hear a Mark Lanegan's song in the style of Elsie. And a cover of Sixto Rodriguez, just to change a bit from Bob Dylan.

I've always wanted to hear Brian cover The Spirit of the Radio by Rush, whether it's acoustic or with the band. Especially after the passing of Neil Peart, may he rest in peace.
I know the vocal range, style, and guitar is completely different than what Brian/TGA generally play, but I think Brian would really appreciate and relate to the following lyrics from the song:
Begin the day With a friendly voice A companion, unobtrusive Plays that song that's so elusive And the magic music makes your morning mood
Off on your way Hit the open road There is magic at your fingers For the spirit ever lingers Undemanding contact In your happy solitude
All this machinery Making modern music Can still be open-hearted Not so coldly charted It's really just a question Of your honesty, yeah your honesty
One likes to believe In the freedom of music But glittering prizes And endless compromises Shatter the illusion Of integrity…
