The Replacements

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I see no thread for the Replacements yet! And it is high time to correct that.

I've been really surprised lately to see all these bands covering them, I haven't met many people that are into them. The first time I ever heard them was in junior high- my favorite band was Third Eye Blind, and they had a song on the Can't Hardly Wait soundtrack, I remember riding my bike down to the Wherehouse Music store to buy it, haha. Anyway, the Replacements song of the same name was on the soundtrack, and that's how I was introduced to their music.

Anyone here ever get to see them?

sadly, no. they were done as a band long before i found them.

My fave song by them is "Kids Don't Follow." It's the very epitome of punk rock, to me.

I started listening to them after I heard Left Of The Dial, they're quickly becoming a new favorite of mine.

"Left of the Dial" has one of the greatest lyrics in all of music:

"Playin' makeup, wearin' guitar"

i think "tim" is an essential to any great record collection, but im sure youve heard that before.

yeah...they disbanded in 1991, and i didn't hear them until spring of my freshman year of high school...somewhere around april of 1993. ahh well.

I agree that Tim is the best album...would have loved to have seen them live. I have heard that they were either legendary or shambolic depending on how much they had drunk. Some of the bootlegs you can get like 'When the shit hits the Fans' demonstrate this pretty well. They are all worth hearing.

I think that Paul Westerberg is one of the best songwriters ever. I saw a show he did in London a few years ago which was brilliant and probably the nearest will ever get to the Mats!

i'm so obsessed with this band right now. i looove that guitar tone. those riffs are so good. and his lyrics and vocals are incredible too. can't decide if Tim or Pleased To Meet Me is better though

bastards of young is on tim, so that pretty much does it for me. i know theres lots of against me fans on here, have you guys seen their cover of bastards of young? pretty sweet.

I was in my fave record shop in camden town on Tuesday before seeing Dinosaur Jr and saw Let it be for sale and brought it because of all the praise in this thread. Im two tracks in and loving it glad I bothered now.

No surprise Lucero cites them as one of their largest influences.

My current favorite track right now: Skyway. It's off of Pleased To Meet Me

Good band but whenever I listen to their albums I'm disappointed with the consistency. Seems like there's filler on every disc. I can't complain much though as they do have some spectacular tunes.

The Replacements are amazing!
Tim, Pleased To Meet Me and Let It Be are one of the best albums ever.

I've got a few albums by them, Tim, Pleased to Meet Me and Let It Be.

Let it Be is probably my favourite.

Paul Westerberg's "Stereo/Mono": brilliant. much tamer than The 'Mats ever were, but great in its own regard. also, Westerberg has hinted that "Mono" was really a reunion of sorts for The Replacements, which makes it even more awesome

Yeah baby! first record of their's I bought was "Don't Tell A Soul". Loved it. Then I got " Sorry Ma". Loved it. They're my new musical obsession.

Dude. Do yourself a favor and get "Let It Be". Listen to it until you're sick of it (which won't be for a while). Then get "Tim" and listen to that. Rinse and repeat.

Tim is one of the greatest piece of art ever created.
