What is it about the record in particular that you just don't like?

The Loved Ones represent only one thing to me. That thing is fun.
I first heard of them 7 years ago when a band I really liked, Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer, was opening up for them at the church. Checked em out and fell in love with them. They were just pure, had great lyrics I could relate to, and the shows I saw were absolutely insane (that one at the lanes with Lemuria.....wow).
Flash forward to Dave playing solo. I'm not into it. I'm bored. I can no longer relate. I equate it with most of the writing on that new Menzingers record, (blah blah blah America blah blah blah my father) just not nearly as good.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, right?
More Dave for the rest of us!

It sounded like he hated the record, nothing personal. Actually he said it extremely politely, even thinking of others while he did so.

I can relate. I love Chuck Ragan's solo stuff. But no matter how hard I try, I just can not get into Hot Water Music at all.

Thanks for letting me know. And I'll gladly take the newer Menzingers and Dave Hause, glad colmillionaire's leaving that stuff for the rest of us. Guess everyone has different tastes, don't they?

No need for the sass, good sir.
I can see where he's coming from as I begin listening. I'm on track three. So far none of the melodies are sticking and Dave keeps adopting this pseudo-Kermit back of the throat singing style that's driving me nuts.
EDIT: Wow, this album is the opposite of front-loaded. I didn't like the first three songs at all but it gets much better. The last song is killer.

haha sorry man. he does have an interesting delivery on some songs, doesn't really bother me personally though. I think before is the standout. It really seems like this album changes a lot as it goes along, it's got a great flow to it My least favorite thing is when an album's first four songs are great and the rest is just meh. This album is definitely not that

Damn. I hope one day I feel an increased amount of love for these guys's original bands, cuz i'm pretty into the solo stuff. Gotta listen more I guess. As a Gaslight fan, what would you say are the best starter songs for HWM and the Loved Ones?

I'm with DeathoftheCool on this one.
I used to fancy myself a punker, but it turns out I'm more of a folk guy. Seems like the punky alternativeness that I so proudly and desperately tried to embrace in my teenage years doesn't fit me that much ^^. Every time I put on a Loved Ones or HWM record, I find myself appreciating the acoustic versions of songs like Jane and Trusty Chords more. I've become mellow
That being said, the first two spins of Devour didn't really do anything for me.

I like the Loved Ones stuff that I know from Dave's shows (meaning I like the LO versions too), so I intend on checking out more Loved Ones stuff. But yeah HWM... I don't know what my problem is.

Hey hey, whoa now. Let's not get crazy here. And "father"? It's not used once on On The Impossible Past. Male Call and Alpha Kappa, but not on the new ones.

I was just annoyed by the writing on the new record is all, and I'm really looking forward to the next record. Seeing them tomorrow , (and at Fest and in West Chester at the end of next month) one of my favorite bands still.
I used to be a folk/indie guy myself. I've seen so many indie folk guys.... I started to like punk as both a personal and economic choice. Way cheaper and much more fun shows. But all of these punkers picking up acoustic guitars does not interest me in the slightest (Tim Barry, Brian McGee, Dave Hause, Chuck Ragan, even Brian Fallon, among others). Again, all the more for you guys!

Well, no, it's not really my thing either, to be honest. But I tend to skew more in the kitchen-sink shoot-for-the-stars Americana thing. That's how I came to Gaslight. I actually find it interesting that some people came at it from the punk angle and others from the (I hate to say it) Bruce angle.

Funny thing is; i'm doing my internship at the venue in Antwerp. Which may provide me total backstage/stage access. Which would be totally rad.

Mine is Autism Vaccine Blues, but only marginally. I love every song! Okay, I really like Becoming Secular, but but every other song is basically tied. Before is REALLY good live.

Dave Hause was brilliant last night in Manchester. Such a great atmosphere at the gig Really liked Northcote too.

The Manchester gig was a really good one. The new stuff sounds great live and nice to hear some old favourites too.
