The Gaslight Anthem vs. Tom Petty (AS vs. Mojo)

I've only just realised that American Slang and Mojo, the new album by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, will be released on the same day.

Is that a tribute from one to the other? And who will win?

I'd be seeing TH this summer too but I'm going to be out of town for a wedding

I doubt it was planned. Material always gets released on Tuesdays for billboard chart purposes. So they just happened to pick the same week. Ozzy and a bunch of other people also have new albums then.

I might get to see Tom Petty this summer. A friend of mine has a spare ticket but I'm just a standby unless someone else can go.

new tom petty sounds good so far - only heard the first few songs

AS slays Mojo. I love Tom Petty, but the vast majority of Mojo is like the same slow bluesy song over and over and over, no memorable hooks.

The critics haven't really taken to the new Tom Petty. The review in Uncut suggested it was a tired effort, and one well below his actual ability.
