| No completely sure about all of these, there are a few parts i couldnt quite get, and suggestions would be much appreciated
The Diamond Church Street Choir And now the lights go low on the avenue And the cars pass by in the rain And the university boys and the girls fill the bars, While I’m just waiting on the light to change And the steam heat pours from the bodies on the floor Down in the basement where the jackknives play For the Hub City girls and the ribbons and their curls Who know the meaning of stayin’ out late, They know the meaning of stayin’ out very, very late
Singing who does it better than we do, Them sopranos in Andy Diamond's choir And wo wo wo wo nobody knows, I’ve been crazy for so long without you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
And I found my beat down out in the universe, Though I never forget where im from. I mighta moved away from home and slept out there on my own, A million miles away in a storm, But the beat never leaves and the temple’s a relief, Until my aching bones rambling all over And if I’m gone for too long, I can always hold on long So don’t you never forget what I told you, Don’t you never forget what I told you.
Everyone singin’ Who does it better than we do, Them sopranos in Andy Diamond's choir And wo wo wo wo nobody knows, I’ve been crazy for so long without you,
And just, baby, who sings the rhythm and the blues so sad and so slow like I do, like I do And oh ain’t it just like you want to And ohh ain’t it just like you always wanted too Yes, yes, yes, yes, every night waitin’ so long without you
And baby, who sings it better than we do Them sopranos in Andy Diamond's choir And wo wo wo wo nobody knows Ive been crazy crazy, crazy, crazy (crazy for so long without you) Yes, baby, who sings the rhythm and the blues so sad, so slow like I do and just like you want to
Let me know what yall think

| Singing who does it better than we do, ??? in any diamonds choir And wo wo wo wo nobody knows, I’ve been crazy for so long without you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm pretty sure its "Than the sopranos in...diamond(s) choir" I can hear it as "any" as "andy" or as "auntie." But I definitely hear "Than the sopranos." And it makes sense lyrically.

| Awesome song, thanks for taking the time to do these lyrics.
In terms of meaning, it seems to me to be a love song to New Jersey/New Brunswick/The New Brunswick "scene", in stark contrast to the generally New York based stuff on this album.

| After my first listen through the album in it's entirety, this track was the one that I found myself humming for the next 48 hours. Frickin love it! So far, my favorite of american slang | |

| love this song.
i think it's about not forgetting where you came from and not getting all full of yourself because you're in a band. he's still not at the party and he still can't sing as well as Diamond's choir (doesn't he have a friend named Diamond?). he still misses his home and his wife.

| I don't know, but when I hear that word, I can't think of anything besides The Larry Arms' "Boatless Booze Cruise." Is there a band called The Jackknives? | |

according to a quick google search, there is a band called The Jack-Knives. They're from Glasgow Scotland. I looked through their friends, and their not friends with Gaslight, so I dunno if they're the band that's mentioned in that lyric. (I can only assume it's a band. Otherwise that line makes no sense to me lol).

That was actually the first thing I heard of when I heard that line in this song. Which in turn made me wanna go listen to the Bosstones.

Yes. Apparently Andy Diamond booked the band's very first gigs at the Court Tavern. He's even an online friend of mine (wohoa!).

| Gaslight is friends with the Bosstones, who released "A Jackknife To a Swan". Dicky Barrett did the "talked about it!" on Patient Ferris Wheel.
I also think about "jump back jack stop and slide to the right"

I also think about "jump back jack stop and slide to the right" i am pretty confident that he borrowed the jump back jack part out of Springsteens "Thundercrack" or it was at very least it was influenced by that song.
