| I'm thinking about getting a Telecaster this spring, and trying to decide which one I want in particular. I'm torn between a Thinline, the straight classic Tele and the model with humbuckers, which is the Deluxe I believe but might be the Custom.
Help? | |

| don't know if you're a Springsteen fan, but you gotta get a Butterscotch Blonde Tele. so pretty
i don't know what price range you're looking at, but my best advice would be to test out each of the guitars, if possible. a place like Guitar Center or Sam Ash would likely have each of these models

| A good plan as I've only played the Thinline before, which ironically was the blonde one like The Boss'. I'm looking at anything under about a grand, which firmly includes all of these if I get relatively current models, no vintage guitars for me. | |

| well, personally, I would recommend this one because of the ash body, which I love, and the Butterscotch-ness: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Standard-Telecaster-FSR-Ash-Electric-Guitar-with-Vintage-Noiseless-Pickups?sku=502530
it's also cheaper than some other Teles. but still, you should probably try to play the ones you're considering to find the one that best meets your sonic needs. buying a guitar really comes down to how it sounds above all else. it's a musical instrument, not a piece of art, no matter how cool or pretty it looks

| True that. It's the lesson I learned with the SG I have right now. Looks cool, but I've come to hate the way it sounds, especially when I play clean. Maybe I just don't have an amp it sounds good on, or encountered one. But I'm sick of it either way.

| I definitely wouldn't get a Tele with humbuckers, because for me it's not what they're about. You want single coils in the bridge and neck for that tele twang. I've got a mexican 60s reissue (this one) and it sounds and plays fantastic. When I first played it, I was amazed at how smooth the neck was. I've only had it a year and a bit but I can't wait til it looks all worn and fucked up. I took a big chip out of it on my bed frame the other day but it didn't bother me too much because I want it to look like it's been thrown about a bit. | |

| I enjoy that aesthetic on guitars, looking really worn, and well played. | |

| I think Joe Strummer's Tele had about a thousand stories to tell. | |
