| i'm here. my name's brian or ambrose or whatever. i'm from the AM! forum too, but I figured I needed to talk about TGA on a much bigger level than the 56 page thread on there so i moved over here to the promised land. i'm just hoping for some good times. | |

| i guess i have to update this for the contest? i've never seen The Gaslight live but I'm hoping that on September 28th that will change. i'm working out some crazy arrangements with a friend and my dad since i'm 17 and can't enter the major city downtown without really supervision.
i heard about TGA for the very first time when i heard about the Thrice, Alk3, Rise Against tour and saw their name tagged on. i really liked the name but i'm not a fan of either Alk3 or Rise Against really so i wasn't too intrigued musically. then The 59 Sound hype started and i saw ads on Absolutepunk.net and Punknews.org and i heard a lot of weird people scattered across the interweb start talking about these guys. then the final straw was the HUGE thread on the AM! board. after that i figured i might want to check this band out.
i've actually been trying to spread the love for TGA ever since then. i live in a small town in the middle of nowhere Texas but everyone i've shown TGA too has liked it. so maybe, just maybe i helped this band in some little way.

let me clear up some confusion, if you posted a thread in the Introduce Yourself Forum then you are entered... it does not matter when you posted the message, just as long as it is there... so long story short, nope, you were already entered.

| So you are a new fan... well, make sure you have downloaded, Sink or Swim, Senor and The Queen and The 59 Sound... then just throw out the rest of your music collection, you will never listen to them again! Seriously, my iTunes top 25 is almost all TGA | |

| I think mine's streetlight and botar at like 25-30 apiece, but gaslight's creeping up. they're at like 15-20 apiece | |

| Two, both with the same frontman. Streetlight Manifesto and Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (BOTAR.)
eta: I love those bands way too much and feel the need to never-shut-up when I see them mentioned. Ugh.

| i'm newISh. i got into this band before The 59 Sound was actually released and i have all the albums downloaded and am quite familiar with Senor And The Queen and The '59 Sound. soon as i pick up some cash, i'm gonna try and buy all of them too.
and i guess all that extra information was just useless then haha.

"Keasbey Nights" - Catch 22 (better than the Streetlight version) "A Call to Arms" - Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution "Everything Goes Numb" - Streetlight Manifesto "Somewhere In the Between" - Streetlight Manifesto they might not be your thing if you aren't into ska/punk, but I know plenty of people who hate ska who love streetlight. i also highly recommend seeing them live. i'm seeing them for the 4th time in a little over a year this october.

| The bass intro to "Walking Away" is significantly better on the Streetlight version (SORRY JOSH ANSLEY). | |

| yeah, walking away was the only improved song on the streetlight version. the trombone in the dueling solos is incredible. especially the high note at the end | |

| I think overall, there were minor improvements in most of the songs*, but I don't think it was really worth rerecording. Obviously it's not my position to judge, Tomas can do whatever the hell he wants, they're his songs...but I like the original better. It's more energetic and "honest," for lack of a better word.
*Well, except for "Kristina." I'm sorry, but the idea of a 25 year old man singing that song cracks me up.

| Yeah, there's just so much more heart in Catch's recording. I agree with everything you just said, especially the Kristina part. He was 8 years removed from high school and singing a middle school type song about a crush. Lol, I just realized this was an intro thread, and we just jacked it to talk about Streetlight. | |
