Reviving The Mix Tape Section Empty
PostSubject: Reviving The Mix Tape Section   Reviving The Mix Tape Section Icon_minitimeSat Aug 29, 2009 10:56 pm

How it started off : Started with a suggestion, and a first mixtape, which was mine. I checked recently and have had 41 downloads, with about 25 in the first week after posting. Since than we have had 17 mixtapes.

Now : Interest has waned. The most recent mixtape(clashrock11's) has had only 3 downloads in 6 days. Many of the recent mixtpaes have not had much feedback, or nearly any at all.

How can we get this mixtape section up and running again? It helps people discover new music and see what other TGA fans listen to.

Any suggestions?

And does anyone know when e7c returns? He is the only one who has the power to edit the mixtape section, add polls, fix up the calender and so forth. Either we need him to fix that all up, or we need someone else to be given the rights to edit these things.

And if anyone wants to help out, give clashrocks mixtape a download and a listen, and tell him what songs you like!
Especially if your mixtape has already been done or is coming up, because i'm sure if people had a listen to yours and gave you feedback, you'd be more inclined to give some feedback in return (or you should anyway for their efforts)

Personally I'd be more inclined to listen if there was a way to stream it. Does anybody know any sites that allow you to make a shareable playlist?

My personal opinion is that some of them are quite long.

I've noticed that one of the tapes had 25 songs. There's just no way I'm going to have the time to listen to it enough to make comments/opinions on it.

If there was a Mixtape EP kinda thing I'd more inclined to give it a shot. I'd be able to download it at night, put it on to my ipod, listen to it on the way to work/uni, listen to it on the way back and then give some feedback.

Andy, here's what I do:

Most people know in the first 5-30 seconds of a song whether or not they like it due to the sounds of the instruments, style of the music, timbre of the vocals, etc. I listen to each song for about that time, make a note in my iTunes from 1-5 stars and then delete anything less than 3 stars. Then I listen again to what remains. It makes those 25 song mixtapes go by rather quickly.

Thanks to a combination of vaction and crappy internet service, I've fallen behind. I am currently downloading a lot of mixtapes and hope to start giving feedback on them soon

I think it's still a great idea to have people create these mixtapes, I just think it takes awhile for people to download the tracks, give em a listen, and then remember to give feedback. Maybe it will pick back up on its own, or maybe it would be better to space them out a little further? Every other week instead of every week, something like that. People probably won't be so willing to make tapes if they realize they are not getting any feedback after taking the time to create their mix...

I know I haven't been the greatest at responding to the last few, had computer problems and whatnot, not using my own computer so I havent been able to download them, but that should change soon.

Just speaking for how I go about things, I tend to download one every two weeks or so. New music takes a while to soak in for me so I'll listen to my favorite tracks from mixtapes a few times before diving in for more. Maybe we should space them out every other week to give people more time and less pressure to do 1 a week or fall behind.

Hmm yeah that's a good idea Vibes, and that'll give people some more time to give some feedback. Anyone know where e7c is? He sort of held this section together.

I too have noticed e7c's absence. I think every fortnight may be the way to go, and also maybe put a cap on the number of songs- even though Vibes' method is pretty neat.

hmm, i really enjoyed listening to the mixtapes, but i have been really busy the last time and so i didn't get to listen to the new ones any more.
when i am stressed or when i have got a lot to do, i do not want to spend my time on music i don't know yet, but like to listen to some i already know and like.
i hope you understand what i mean...

i think it would be best if we had twice the time per mixtape to take a listen to it, or maybe we should make a short break of maybe a month or so, where no new tapes will be posted and afterwards we'll have new energy again.

i know what you mean, grazer, im the same way. there are separate times for new music, and music you love and can sing along with, especially if youre stressed out.

and yeah, where the hell is e7c? busy jumping out of planes, something less important than maintaining our little mixtapes...psssh

Should we start a new mixtape calender then? Have a week off then every second week from then on? Only problem is we won't be able to delete the old one, and that's why we need e7c. Is anyone else able to sticky a topic?

i think, like i said, every other week, would give people more time to absorb the music and leave comments/feedback...i think thats a good idea. i think if we dont do that, eventually the mixtape section will die out.

That sounds like a good idea - I do feel overwhelmed with all the new music.

it would be a shame for people to not even bother listening to the music so for the time being i do think every other week is good, it can always be adjusted, but for all the trouble people go to, to create the tapes, it would be better to space them out than to not have them listened to at all, and have the mixtapes die a slow and painful death

yes it would totally best to give more time to every playlist.

of course i could listen to every song a few seconds to judge it, but i really want to listen to each one at least 5times before i make my decision. songs i liked after having listened to it for the first time often turned out to be boring to me and otherwise i really got into many songs that i at first did not like at all.

so if you got a playlist with let's say about 15-17 songs, that i listen to once a day and that i want togo through a few times, there won't be enough time for me anymore if i am stressed the other day or anything else happens.

Also, could all people who have posted mixtapes add polls to their mixtape one weeks after uploading. Hopefully this will help regenerate some interest.
