I'm posting my mixtape tomorrow, but I need help getting it uploaded to a site; I have it on Itunes, and I can't figure out how to save all the songs as one thing so I can upload them. Yes, I'm a bit computer challenged...
Alright folks, mixtapes uploaded! I got too excited thinking about what
kind of mixtape to make and came up with a bunch of themes and lists
and whatnot, and ended up making two...so here you go, music overload.
Hope at least a few of you enjoy these and hear something new! Feast
your ears upon...
Steph's First Mixtape- "The Devil's Music"megaupload.com F53NE2XJ
Steph's Second Mixtape- "Lonesome Town"megaupload.com 5BXHIKBFFirst Mixtape 01- "Ballroom Blitz"- The Sweet
This song is just funny...and I think it starts off the mixtape well.
Heard this song years ago and never could find out who sings it,
apparently it's some glam rock band from the '70's!02- "Bastards of Young"- The Replacements
I freakin love this song...gets me singin along and just makes me feel
good, every time I hear it, like I get out my frustration with the
world. It starts off so great, so much energy.03- "You'll Never Walk Alone"- The Adicts
If you've never seen this band, they dress like A Clockwork Orange.
British punk rock band from the '80's, I'm not sure if they are still
together, but I saw 'em a few years back, and they put on a great show.
04- "It's Been So Long"- The Horrorpops
Some of you might be familiar with them...I think they have done the
Warped Tour before; one of the guys is also in the Nekromantix. They're
like psychobilly/rockabilly pop. 05- "Some Kinda Hate"- The Misfits
What can I say?...probly my favorite Misfits song. It's from "Static
Age," an album recorded with Danzig, that was supposed to be their
first album, but wasnt released until nearly twenty years later.06- "The Photographer"- Girl in a Coma
This is a great rock band, from Texas. They're signed to Joan Jett's
label and have opened for Morrissey, and supposedly also opened for
Social Distortion. Some people call em punk, I'm not sure.07- "Pet Sematary"- The Ramones
I'm sure you all know The Ramones, I couldn't help including them on this mix. 08- "Hangin' on the Telephone"- Blondie
Once again, I'm sure you've all heard of Blondie before...09- "Behind Closed Doors"- Rise Against
I had to include Rise Against on my rockin' out mix...I love them. 10- "Human Fly"- The Cramps
I just like this song. Some people credit The Cramps with being the
first psychobilly song. It's probably a song you'll really dig or
really not...11- "Beyond Redemption"- HIM
Have to give some love to my old favorite band. This is one of their
more rock songs. Not sure if anyone will care for this, but that's
alright...12- "Fall In"- Adam and the Ants
Actually, I'm not sure if this is Adam and the Ants, or just Adam Ant.
But it's a fun song so it goes on the mix! If you've never heard Adam
and the Ants before, they were a new wave/ post punk band in the '80's.13- "Teenage Kicks"- The Undertones
Haven't heard many songs by The Undertones before, but I love this
one. I love his voice in this song, it's perfect with the lyrics. 14- "Like a Lady"- The Sounds
The Sounds are a Swedish band, they're getting fairly popular now, but
I haven't listened to their new stuff yet. They're kinda dance-y but
more rock and roll than clubbing music. I guess they're kinda new
wave/punk/pop all mixed together.
15- "Under My Thumb"- Social D
Had to include Social D on my mix, too! I like this cover better than the original (Rolling Stones).16- "Brooklyn"- Civet
I thought this was a good song to end the 'rock and roll' kinda mix
on...another band that has toured with Social D. Her voice is similar
to Brody from The Distillers. Second Mixtape01- "Flowers and Football Tops"- Glasvegas
If you haven't heard this band before, you're sorely missing out. I
read somewhere the band admires the Wall of Sound, Phil Spector thing,
and you can hear that in their music. They do a pretty good cover of
"Be My Baby." Plus I recall reading somewhere that Brian Fallon sang a
line from their song "Geraldine," during one of Gaslight's performances
at one of the festivals they played in England recently. Read what this
song is about, it's heartbreaking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kriss_Donald02- "God of Wine"- Third Eye Blind
Once again, have to show some love for an old favorite band...I was
obsessed with them in junior high...you know, "Semi-Charmed Life"?
Their first, self titled album was a lot better than people gave it
credit for. 03- "Little Motel"- Modest Mouse
I just love this song.04- "I've Been Loving You Too Long"- Otis Redding
You have to be a little amazed at how beautiful Otis Redding's voice is when you hear this song.05- "How Do You Keep Love Alive"- Ryan Adams
Really sad song, appropriate for this mix!06- "Please Die, Ana"- Silverchair
I get drawn in by this song every time. It's about the singer's struggle with anorexia. 07- "November"- Azure Ray
Once again, I just love this song. So sad in such a pretty way.08- "Here Comes a Regular"- The Replacements
You know, I don't like a lot of sad, mellow, ballad type songs from
bands that normally play upbeat, rock and roll songs, but The
Replacements could really do both. 09- "Twilight"- Elliott Smith
I just love Elliott Smith, I'm sad I never got to see him...If I
ever want to just wallow in a depressed mood, I put on Elliott Smith.
Maybe that sounds weird, but listening to him, one the one hand I feel
depressed, on the other hand, I feel like I'm not alone...anyway, this
song is from his last album, the one he was working on before his
death, so the whole thing is not as it would have been if he were still
alive...but it's still great.10- "Flowers in December"- Mazzy Star
A lot of people know them from their song "Fade Into You," they
have a lot of good sad or just mellow tunes. I love the harmonica on
this song, it's perfect.11- "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted"- Jimmy Ruffin
I had to include this one! It's kinda sad, but it's got a more
upbeat sound than a lot of the songs on this mix, didn't want it to be
too depressing. 12- "I'll Stand By You"- The Pretenders
I just have always loved this song. Chrissie Hynde has a cool, unique voice. 13- "Between the Bars"- Elliott Smith
Yes, another Elliott Smith song. I did
say I loved him...plus this is from a couple albums back, and it's such a good song...14- "I Know It's Over"- Jeff Buckley
Hah! I managed to put some Jeff Buckley on a mixtape, and it's not
"Hallelujah," as good as that cover is, this is another good cover he
did of a Smiths song. Not sure I like it better than the original, but
it's pretty damn good.15- "Asleep"- The Smiths
Couldn't forget The Smiths...I don't know how anyone can't love Morrissey's voice.16- "Do You Want to Come With"- Stephen Fretwell
I heard this song and bought the CD. Don't know much of his other stuff, but I like this song...17- "Disintegration"- The Cure
I love, love, love The Cure, particularly "Disintegration." They just create a whole world with their songs...
And sorry, this one might put it just barely over the one-burnt-cd mark, it's kinda long!
