| I'm shocked nobody's mentioned this band yet when they have Brian Fallon in one of the songs. Has anybody had the chance to get into Let Me Run yet? Ever since getting the vinyl wth the lyrics sheet, I'm completely hooked. I haven't read lyrics along with an entire album for a long time. I did a bit of research on a study break last night... found out the lead singer, Travis Omilian, was in previous group called The Stand In. I haven't had time to track down much muic yet, but here's a few tracks and info on the band http://dwpoore.com/thestandin Notice one of the drummers... Brian Rothenbeck. Should look familiar, because along with Brian Fallon, he wrote a lot of the music for Surrogate McKenzie. In fact, most of us have been to his website with the music from all the bands he's been in, Amping Copper, Surrogate, etc... and there's even a few tracks from The Stand In there. Check it out... http://www.rothenbeck.net/music/music/thestandin/index.html The point is, not only is Let Me Run a very good band and somewhat similar to The Gaslight Anthem, they also have traveled in the same circles. | |

| I've had their record since November and it's decent. They're a whole lot better live than they are on soap. The record sounds flat to emphasize the voice of their singer but other than that it's a decent record. Shane and Live Grenades are my favorite songs. | |

| Hell yeah isn't that the coolest color scheme to match the cover art? I love that record. These guys are just starting to tour right now and I plan on seeing them twice... if only they would announce where the Delaware show is gonna be in two days | |

| I kinda get irked by all these comparisons to TGA. I just don't see it. Besides being from the same neighborhoods and being on the same label, there's not many similarities. The two sounds are completely different. Brian sings about a whole lot of classic, romantic stuff like ferris wheels, old cars, old music, old movies, women, etc. Let Me Run's songs are more anthemic, full of struggle and hope. For example in Shane there's lyrics like "When sober friends are in need of drunken beds, you can bend and break on me and I can break and bend on you. Meet me at the bottom when you have to" and in On My Levees, obviously a song about New Orleans: "We faced collapse and made it out, face collapse somehow with both hands bound" Also, almost every song by Let Me Run is about alcohol addiction, and we all know Brian doesn't drink.
Honestly, I don't even think the bands sound alike. Gaslight is a lot cleaner, usually slower, and Brian sings. Let Me Run is a very hard band, a whole lot faster, and Travis spends most the time screaming and whispering. Actually, no disrespect to Brian because I think he's an amazing vocalist, but I think Travis' voice is more versatile.
All in all, these are two geat bands that just happen to be from the same spot. And XOXO was lucky/smart enough to get them.
And Brian sings the very end of I Don't Stomp, I Battle. It's actually kinda pointless because it's such a short appearance. The guy on punknews said it best: "I'd have liked to see him on the prior choruses as well, or not at all."

| Anyone get into this band yet? They replaced the singer over the summer, and they've been keeping it pretty quiet until this week when they posted a new track. They finally came out and addressed it on punknews today

If, by any chance, you've followed my posts about this band, you can guess I'm a bit upset. Even when Travis was in the Let Me Run, I was skeptical about them being able to top Meet Me At The Bottom, seriously a near-perfect album from the songwriting, lyrics, emotion, even visually with the album art and vinyl color (above)
Anyway now with a new singer there's no shot, and now with the song up, I don't even think I'm a fan of the band. Check it out

It raises a few points. I mean, in most bands you can replace a bassist, drummer, or guitarist easily... I mean for the most part - Rage Against the Machine wouldn't have been the same without Tom Morello playing guitar. But the voice of a band is the VOICE of a band, and I think once the vocalist is gone, it's not the same band.
Any thoughts on this? | |

| I agree with you about topping Meet Me At The Bottom, it'll be tough.
The new song was good though. It was different. I think of them as a new band now. The front man's energy reflects the band so LMR + new guy = new band.
The guys are all great guys and I wish them success. It's important at this point to take a step back and re-examine them as a band. There's only one new song out, let's give the new guy a chance before we condemn LMR forever.
