Eh. I loved it when it was first released, but now I think it's kinda mediocre.

Behold the hurricane still stands out as one of my all time favorite Fallon songs, and there are some other amazing tracks like Black Betty and Ladykiller, but I hold the word masterpiece to a higher standard than this.

I don't know how you define "masterpiece". If you're asking if I think it's Brian's best work I'd say no. If you'd define masterpiece as something that accomplishes everything it set out to accomplish, then I'd say yes. Those songs are very powerful.

While I LOVE the album...I think coining it a masterpiece would be pushing it. A masterpiece to me is an album like Born To Run, London Calling, Revolver, Blonde on Blonde, Pet Sounds, etc.

I DO think that Elsie was drastically unrecognized and underappreciated though. To me, it's one of the most cohesive albums I've heard for quite a while and really cements Brian's placement as one of the top rock n roll songwriters today.
