Usually they do that when they're trying to get a crowd member's attention or they flash at each other to signal that the show's going to start up/the band's coming to the stage.

| I am unbelievably jealous of the setlist for night 2. Sounds like a real night and day difference between the two shows. Ugh and they played Mae?? I'm gonna go cry in a corner now.
Crossing my fingers that I picked the better night of the two for the Pier 26 shows.

- on Saturday night I must say that's about the first time I saw next to no reaction from a crowd after they did their regular set. I think people really could have cared less if they came out for an encore...it was almost embarrassing. I don't even think they wanted to come back on...it took them a while. And then they flashed the lights on the crowd, possibly trying to get them to clap? It was super lame...reminds me when you go to a sports game and they write "MAKE SOME NOISE" on the Jumbotrom. lol
It definitely wasn't the Williamsburg show or the Webster Hall show, that's for sure.
Glad I got to see them but definitely glad I didn't waste my time with both nights. You would not have been wasting your time. Night 2 was amazing. The crowd was going nuts and Brian was grinning ear to ear quite a bit. And it was a great set list.

| Both setlists look a little ho-hum to me. Their recent formula of ~22 songs with ~70% of the set coming from The '59 Sound or Handwritten doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room. I don't expect them to play marathon shows every night but it'd be nice to see them mix it up a little more and/or play longer sets if they insist on relying so heavily on those two albums. | |

| I didn't notice til I was going through photos that Benny had sandbags on his riser! Also I'd like to add that I liked security at this venue. They were laid back without being lazy. I noticed that at the August 2010 show too. | |

I was like in love with these security guys. First time I've ever gone to a show where they actually caught the crowd surfers and lifted them off the crowd, rather than letting them fall on the front row. I only got knocked in the head once and it wasn't even bad. Usually I end up with some dude landing ass first on my head at least once and kicked a half dozen more times. I want these guys at every show!

| It's also nice when security can tell who is trying to hang out down front after crowdsurfing vs. who is genuinely confused about where to exit so they can go back into the crowd. I hate seeing the innocents get rough-housed for nothing. | |

| anyone have a picture of the poster for this show? I didn't even bother to head to the merch stand which I guess is a reflection of my feelings on how turned off I have become by their merchandising efforts in the past year.
El Jefe just wrote another cryptic post on Facebook which is sure to fuel internet message board discussion.
Since he's not specific it's fair game to assume he's talking about the posters this weekend.

| Oh, I'd put money that he was discussing people complaining about the posters from this weekend. There's a picture of one earlier in the thread. I'm not against it (very classic concert poster look), but it is VERY different than El Jefe's work. | |

| Is it the 'In a city near you' one?
I liked it a lot, and it's a nice change from the el jefe style which was getting a bit tiresome.

| This is the poster from Saturday. Mine is number #183. Not sure how many were printed. I saw a picture of the poster for Sunday, but can't find it now. It had the dates of the shows as well as The Hold Steady and The Felice Brothers listed on it. I did not see it at the Saturday show. Maybe they had one limited poster each night? Did they still have this posters for sale at the Sunday show? | |

| I realize once again they're trying to pay tribute to the past by going with a throwback promotional poster, but it just feels extremely lazy on their part to actually sell such an unoriginal design.
Out of curiosity, how much were these going for?

The "coming to a city near you" posters were also sold in Australia, so they weren't show specific for just this past weekend. I found this one done by Max Gordon online. It's described as an unofficial poster, so I doubt it was sold at the show or even commissioned by the band. It's nicer than the other poster though.

| I'd like it if there were people sitting in it. Like a couple holding hands taking pictures and you just saw them from the curtain down. | |

| I actually like that unoffical poster.
Personally I like all the El Jefe posters or else I wouldn't have spent hundreds of dollars on them and then hundreds more to recently frame them so I can hang them up in my new game room, but I could see the need to change things up and go a different direction perhaps.

| Before I get to my brief review of the 2 shows I just want to mention one thing.
As you may have seen I had posted that I had an extra ticket which I was willing to sell at less then face value. I got a PM from username "Theband88" saying that he needed an extra ticket and would buy it. So I told him I'd meet him at the venue, he gave me his numbers. I text him saying ill be there around 6:15. No response. Park my car its 6:30, text him again, no response. Woulda been nice to get a response one way or another that way i could have sold my ticket to someone else instead of waiting till 7 to go in and not get as good a spot cause I was waiting to give a ticket to someone.
So Im not sure if he did that on purpose, or to be a jerk, but whatever the reason just be careful if that guy ever says he wants an extra ticket from you. Not reliable.
Finally on to the shows. 2nd night definitely was better but I also liked the setlist better and the weather was 70 and sunny compared to 55 and rainy. Not a surprise the crowd was better on the 2nd night.
Also want to give rare props to the mosh pits. For the most part they were pretty respectable of the other fans around. I've always said that I hate mosh pits, but if the people who are going to mosh surround the pit when they arent moshing and make sure the other moshers arent going into the rest of crowd and knocking over unsuspecting people I can live with it. I know it sounds like im an old grandpa complaining like that...but really if youre a 25 year old dude their with your girlfriend you should be able to be in the front 5-10 rows without having to worry about guarding your girlfriend from getting knocked over just so you can be close to the band. So props to them.
On the setlist though I really wish they would throw in some new stuff. I have seen 10 shows now and still havent heard Bring It On. Also I know it would be a little weird to play live, but how about When We Were Young and National Anthem. Can they get away with those live? I may be in the minority but I enjoy the songs, and even if you dont you can admit youve heard all the other songs a crap load maybe mixing it up on nights where you have back to back setls would work.
See you all in the city for the next two shows.

See you all in the city for the next two shows. I'm not sure where people get the idea that they're not capable of doing When We Were Young live. They did at least 12 times on the American Slang tour. http://www.setlist.fm/stats/the-gaslight-anthem-2bd644fa.html Saw them do it at Radio City and it was great. Bring It On was super common during the AS tour... not sure why they've dropped it, but they've done it with a few of the AS songs, like Stay Lucky and Boxer.

I would love to hear Stay Lucky and Boxer in July. They're happy summer songs.
