Apropos of nothing, here's a pretty awesome band from New Jersey, the Gaslight Anthem, performing with Bruce Springsteen.

If gaslight ever wants to become truly successful, they need to get rid of the Springsteen influence in their next record. Or for their whole career people are going to write them off as some Springsteen wannabe band.

Seems like a pretty ridiculous statement. First of all, you can't just stop an influence. That's why it's an influence, it's just there. If TGA makes a great record, it'll be a great record and people will listen to it. If TGA spends their time trying to not sound like somebody, they'll probably end up over thinking themselves, will definitely break their natural flow, and put themselves at risk of sounding like ass. Besides, the geographical connection is something they can't rid. It took Springsteen a few records to shake the Dylan comparison, but that wasn't because he said "I've got to make a record that won't make people think of Dylan." Eventually he just became bigger than the comparison. Takes time.

You'd think that with my post count I'm actually a good contributor to the forum but in reality I mostly just post ridiculous things. It's a defense mechanism for when I have nothing constructive to say.

No, scratch that, it's just my way of saying how silly something is.
