Once Upon a Time is an excellent song but not a TGA original. Once Upon a Time I believe was originally done by Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise (see youtube below). I do find this song quite amazing though. I think it ties the entire CD together. Remembering the "days of when". Not that I'm OLD but getting there- this song has a lot of meaning. Sorta hits home. Just thought I'd share with everyone where the song actually came from. Brian's love for older music is quite fantastic.

Peace and Cheers.

Didn't know that, I definately prefer TGA version, I don't like the way he pronounces the words

This may be different in other countries, but I can't get the video as 'This video has been removed due to terms of use violation.'

I'll be uploading the live shit they did in Seattle. I was able to record the last 1/3 of the set, which included this song. Won't be able to do it until tomorrow though

It was just a video of the original band doing the song- you could look them up and hear it- I'm sure their music is out there, iTunes etc. I'm at work or else I'd look it up.

The version of it on his live new years CD is great... but it is 7+ minutes long.

This song is so beautiful.
I was trying to remember where I had heard it before and then it just came to me.
My late Grandad used to sing it to my Nanna all the time when I would stay at theirs whilst my mum went to work.
She would always tell him to put a lid on it, mainly when he approached the 'hot pant' lyric.

I can also thank my Grandad for all his vinyls he left.
Next time I am at my Nanna's I will try to get them all down from the loft and see what he had. Might be some hidden treasures there.
He also had a little obsession with the Supremes, shall I say!
I think he collected all of their vinyls.

I think this song is a grower. At first I didn't think it was one par with other Gaslight songs, maybe because it wasn't theirs originally, but now I quite like it.

The lyrical content of it is a little different to something to come from TGA but they still managed make it their own.
In my opinion, covers of a song shouldn't sound too similar to the orginal otherwise it is just completely copying the pervious version which is lazy. It is one thing to just cover a song but a totally different thing to be able to stray from the original format and make it your own.

This song is absolutley one of my favorite songs of all time... if you have not heard the live version from Robery Bradley's Blackwater Surprise album "What About That: New Year's Eve in Bloomington [live]" then you are missing out.

I do not know if it is obvious or not, but everyone mentioned in the song is dead. This song is a beautiful reminder and tribute to some of the most talented musicians to ever live.

Marvin Gaye (shot by his father) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_gaye
Martin Luther King (assassinated by James Earl Ray) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_luther_king
Otis Redding (airplane crash) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otis_redding
Sam Cooke (shot by Bertha Franklin in self defense) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Cooke
Stevie Ray Vaughn (helicopter crash) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Ray_Vaughn
Johnny Cash (broken heart) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_cash
Barry White (kidney failure) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_white

Bob Marley (cancer) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_marley
Janis Joplin (heroin overdose) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janis_Joplin
Jon Lee Hooker (old age, 83) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lee_Hooker
Muddy Waters (old age, 70) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muddy_Waters
Ray Charles (old age, 73) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_charles
Hank Williams (morphine overdose) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Williams
Roy Orbison (heart attack) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_orbison
Jerry Garcia (heart attack) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Garcia
Jimi Hendrix (asphyxication from drug overdose) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimi_hendrix
Elvis Presley (combined drug intoxication) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_presley

it is pretty sad that most of these people died of something other than natural causes.

yes it is in the live version... trust me the recorded version does not hold a candle to the live version.
