Subject: Anyone play mandolin? Sun Feb 28, 2010 8:58 pm
I just bought one yesterday and it's lots of fun. I want to try and work it into a TGA cover. Any song suggestions?

i got a mandolin and taught myself how to play. id recommend just learning the basic chords first, E, A, D, G, B, C, F.. once you learn those you can probably play almost any gaslight song. they are a good time to mess around with.

Yeah I already know some of the basic chords from messing around with my uncle's mandolin, although it was in horrible shape with really high action that made it almost impossible to fret anything on the G string, so I figured I'd get my own.

Anyone know any other cool songs to play on it (originally mandolin, or otherwise)? I kind of expected it but I'm a bit disappointed that I don't know like 99% of the songs online for mandolin and it's hard to learn songs you don't know. Also I'm not a Zeppelin fan so that eliminates like the other .5%.
I'm learning "Norwegian Wood" right now though and it sounds awesome.

Don't Flogging Molly have mandolin on most of their songs? I reckon it'd be fun to learn some of their songs. DKM use it a bit too

Thats how I learnt mandolin. Worked through drunken lullabies and then DKM songs with mando. Eventually I moved on to traditional stuff like Devils Dream etc.
